New Zealand’s Samantha Lissington won the Stablewood Coastal Cottages Open Intermediate section at Burgham riding Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ, beating Wills Oakden (Cooley Ramiro).

It was Sam’s first visit to Burgham, and she said: “It’s a lovely event and the courses were well put together – it was nice to feel confident to go faster running on perfect ground.”

Sam, 29, moved to the UK in July last year, bringing a team of four horses, and this is her first win at intermediate level since setting up home here.

Tom Jackson (Ask For Manchier) and Will Murray (Crosstown Sir Lancelot) took the two restricted intermediate classes, which were sponsored by Voltaire.

Ian Stark – for so many years the mainstay of the British team and a former European Champion – returned to the saddle to win the EHOA Open Novice section on Chatsworth Diamond, completing on his impressive dressage score of 20.5.

Archie Smith-Maxwell was first and second in the under-18 Open Novice class sponsored by Beau Monde Salon & Spa, riding Master Ping and Akolien.

The remaining novice sections, sponsored by GAIN Equine Nutrition and MaxBox Developments, went to Matthew Wright (Freya 363) and Lucinda Mesquita (Jandine).

There were five BE100 sections, sponsored by Pennine Conservatories, Alnorthumbria Vet Group, The Apple Inn, Hubbway Hire and PixelBuddy. Toots Bartlett (Extasy SR Z) and Lucy Hixson (Copperhall Barney) took Thursday’s classes, while Sunday’s winners were Mark Davidson (Cooley Anything You Like), Kirsty Hetherington (Rock N Roll Star) and Laura Fenwick with Manakin.

Our grateful thanks go to all the volunteers, officials, contractors, riders, grooms and owners – and, most importantly, our landowners the Hogg family – for making Burgham such a great event in 2020.
